Fan Art & Fan Fiction Policy

Fan Art, Fan Fiction & Letters:
What You Need to Know

We loooove that fans want to draw art or write about ourcharacters--sometimes in non-cannonical ways--or that some folks like to write to us or even the characters (that's so fun!). From time to time, we may even decide to use some of that material in our books, DVDs, zines, and even on our web site. Letters in particular are likely to be quoted or otherwise shared.

Here's some information you should know for the next time you think about sending us some of your creations based on our worlds:

1. Fan art and letters may be submitted by regular mail (when our address is settled) or e-mail. We may ask you to complete, sign, and mail us a release form.

Here's where to send your stuff:

You can post to our Forum once it's set up (just register and off you go!). We particularly like this option, since fans can share. And as you know, sharing is caring!
Or you can e-mail to us at fansubmissions@phrixion-publishing.com

2. Fan art may be submitted in black and white or in color, but color fan art may be rendered in black and white in books at our discretion. If sent by regular mail, all fan art must be no larger than 8.5" by 11", and if sent by e-mail, your art should be sent in JPEG or GIF format at a resolution of 150 to 300 DPI and with a file size not greater than 10 MB.

3. You can send us either originals or photocopies by regular mail. IMPORTANT : NO SUBMISSIONS WILL BE RETURNED TO YOU. This means that you will not get back anything you send to us, so think twice before you send us the original of your work if it's something you want to keep.

4. For e-mail submissions, include your name, your age, and your address, and include your
first name_last name in the name of any file you attach. PLEASE NOTE: Our e-mail servers scan for viruses, so we may not receive your attachment if our server thinks it's infected. You can link us to your artwork instead if it's hosted at a recognized gallery site.

5. For regular mail submissions, clearly print your name, your age, and your complete address on the back of each page you send.

6. If you'd like, you can include a "pen-name" or nickname for publishing purposes...but you still MUST give us your real legal name, as well.

7. Anything you send to us becomes the property of Phrixion Publishing and, as we said before, it will not be returned to you. We will have the right to print, reproduce, distribute, or modify the artwork for use in any of our products, on our web site, and in our publicity and promotional materials, subject to royalties if applicable. In other words, if it's displayed as fan art you have our thanks and admiration; if it's published to illustrate a story or if we'd like to use it on merchandise then we'll contact you to arrange for our standard applicable payment.

8. If you are under 18, we will need a written parental permission in order to use your submission. If you submit by e-mail, we will send you a form for your parent to complete and mail to us. If you submit by regular mail, you can have your parent or guardian sign and date the permission on the back of your submission. The permission can be a very simple statement like: "I am _____'s parent/ guardian. I have read and agreed to the terms of Phrixion Publishing's fan submission policy posted at www.phrixion-publishing.com." Please remember that the permission must be on the back of your submission and signed and dated. I have to wonder though... How did you in good faith get past the warning page? o.o

9. We will have the right to print your name, country/state if we include all or any part of your submission in any of our products.

10. You acknowledge that all material you send to us is your original creation and does not violate the rights of others. Phrixion Publishing freely allows people to make fan creations of our characters and settings, but when you submit it you are guaranteeing to us that it is your own work.

11. We recognize that fans are what drives the industry, and bearing that in mind we also realize that many like to sell their fan art at cons and such. Phrixion Publishing isn't going to come down on you like Disney for this. We would like it a lot if you'd send us a copy of your print, comic, fanfic, or what have you for our collection, though. We get a thrill out of seeing what our fans do.
